A company's paperwork online in Qatar: what no longer needs a counter

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry spent 2026 moving a company's paperwork into an app. Here is what can now be finished without a counter — and the deadlines none of it moves.

On 17 September 2026 the Ministry of Commerce and Industry put another part of a company's paperwork into an app. This guide sets out what can now be finished without standing at a counter — the renewal, the certificates, the e-commerce licence, the record you can pull on a company before you sign with it — and the one thing none of it changes.

What was launched, and when

The Ministry announced the package on 17 September 2026. Four things arrived together, and the two that matter to whoever keeps a company's file are the last two.

  • A redesigned website, with the navigation rebuilt around what a visitor came for.
  • An updated Qatar Business Map, which is a research tool: where an activity is concentrated, what the market data says, and where a project might sit.
  • A certificates service in the Ministry's app, issuing eight commonly used certificates and extracts instantly — chosen, paid for and received digitally in one pass.
  • A comprehensive renewal service, which takes a renewal end to end in the app: review the data, complete the requirements, submit, track it and pay.

The e-commerce licence now has a price

The same announcement put a figure on something that had none. The e-commerce licence, created by Minister of Commerce and Industry Decision No. 25 of 2026, is issued for a fee of QR 500 and covers 194 approved activities; the application is made through the Single Window. Until this announcement the decision required "the prescribed fees" and no amount was published anywhere.

A company's regulatory record, read with its consent

The Regulatory Record Report was launched on 29 July 2026 and is the most interesting of the year for anybody who signs contracts. It lets a consumer or another company see a set of general regulatory indicators about a business before contracting with it, rather than relying on what it says about itself.

  • The company's basic details: the name, the licence number, the activity and the status of the licence.
  • How many complaints and violations are recorded against it.
  • Whether it has been administratively closed, and when.
  • How its complaints are classified, and its rate of responding to them.

It runs on a consent principle, which is the part to understand before assuming either the best or the worst of it: the company whose record is being asked for either allows the sharing in advance or approves the request when it arrives. Your own record is not a public page, and neither is your supplier's.

  1. Open the Ministry's digital platform and sign in through Tawtheeq.
  2. Search for the company by its licence number or its trade name.
  3. State the purpose of the request, which is part of the form and not a formality.
  4. Wait for the company's approval, unless it has already allowed its data to be shared.

Dar Al Sharikat: one door for the economic zones

Dar Al Sharikat was inaugurated on 14 September 2026 as the body that registers and licenses companies in Qatar's economic zones, and keeps the registers for them. It covers the Qatar Financial Centre, the Qatar Free Zones Authority, the Qatar Science and Technology Park and Media City Qatar — four regimes that each had their own front door. As announced, it also provides tax and immigration services to the companies registered with it and verifies their compliance with labour standards and data protection requirements.

What none of this changes

The counter moved; the calendar did not. A renewal that can be finished in four minutes on a phone is still a renewal that must happen before the expiry date, and the consequences of missing it are exactly what they were. The same is true of the establishment card, which follows the other two papers rather than keeping its own schedule.

What an office should actually do

  1. Put the Ministry's app on the phone of whoever actually renews things, not on the manager's.
  2. Try the comprehensive renewal on the next paper that falls due, while there is still time to fall back on the old route.
  3. Decide, once, whether your company pre-approves regulatory-record requests or answers them one at a time.
  4. Pull the record of a supplier you are about to sign a real contract with, and see what your own looks like.
  5. If any part of the group sits in a free zone, the QFC, the science park or Media City, send that paperwork to Dar Al Sharikat rather than to the Ministry.

Common questions

Can I renew a commercial registration from my phone in Qatar?
Yes. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry's comprehensive renewal service, launched on 17 September 2026, takes the renewal end to end in its app — reviewing the data, completing the requirements, submitting and tracking the application, and paying. Renewal through the Single Window on the website remains available.
What does an e-commerce licence cost in Qatar?
QR 500 to issue, against a list of 194 approved activities, applied for through the Single Window. The licence itself was created by Minister of Commerce and Industry Decision No. 25 of 2026; the fee and the number of activities were published by the Ministry on 17 September 2026.
Can anyone look up my company's regulatory record?
No. The Regulatory Record Report runs on a consent principle: the company being asked about either permits the sharing in advance or approves each request. The report shows general regulatory indicators — complaints and violations, administrative closures, how complaints are classified and the rate of response — not the detail of any one case.
What is Dar Al Sharikat?
The body inaugurated on 14 September 2026 to register and license companies in Qatar's economic zones and keep their registers: the Qatar Financial Centre, the Qatar Free Zones Authority, the Qatar Science and Technology Park and Media City Qatar. It also provides tax and immigration services to companies registered with it.
Have the renewal deadlines changed?
No. Nothing in the September 2026 package moves a date. A commercial registration and a trade licence are renewed before they expire exactly as before, and the establishment card still follows them. What changed is where the work is done, not when it is due.
